Bonjour to the families and friends of the International Leadership Academy! As we wind down a terrifically busy and fun 2012-2013 school year, we are looking forward to the delights of summertime. Here are some highlights from the month of May:
A family Science and Engineering night on May 16 brought our school community together around numerous stations to explore scientific concepts such as a catapult, flying cups with air pressure, flying spinners, slime, a hand-made “Chia” pet, and testing weight and flotation in water. Kids went home testing their findings around their own environments.
We would also like to welcome two new families who joined ILA in the past six weeks. Bienvenue to Olivia, a three-year old in pre-school, and to Mariano, a seven-year old in first grade, and his brother Nicolas, a four-year old in pre-school. We are so glad to work with you!
Finally, May brought us an extraordinary nature experience at Camp Namanu through OMSI, near the Sandy River. Aquatic ecology field studies, team challenges and games, survival skills, and animal fur identification were among the highlights the children remember. The kindergarteners can’t wait to be in next year’s first grade class in order to camp for two nights!
Finally, Zephyr musique, a gypsy jazz, swing and waltz band all in French, featuring Lisa Grimm, the mom of Josephine and Olivia, kindergarteners at ILA will be playing this Friday, May 31st. They will be at the deliciously cozy Press Club from 8-11pm, located at SE 26th & Clinton. No cover! See here for more information: www.pressclubpdx.com
June is brimming with activities as we end the school year and begin summer camps. First, on June 7, we’ll be hosting a school open house from 8-12pm. Send anyone you think is interested in checking out our excellent school offerings our way!
Also on June 7th, parents, get ready, is the school’s End of the Year Program 2013: Planet Blues. This will take upstairs in the school starting at 5pm, followed by a potluck. During intermission, we will hold our 5th grade graduation ceremony. Felicitations! A book sale will concurrently happen, as a fundraiser for the school. The children have been working really hard on their songs, the program promises to be wonderful!
A school council meeting will take place on June 13th at the school at 4pm. That same day is the last day of classes.
Parents teachers conferences are scheduled on June 14th all day. Please sign up at school to reserve your spot.
ILA will be at the Lake Oswego Farmer’s market on June 15th, at the OHSU market on Tuesday June 4th and at the Kid’s Day event with LOMC( Lake Oswego Mothers Club) on June 21st . Come out to help promote the school!
Summer camps begin on June 17th! Be sure to sign up, and pass the news along to your friends who might like to have their children enjoy the benefits that yours do at ILA for a very reasonable summer camp fee! Some of the camp highlights are Mad Science, African drumming and Reggae One World Chorus.
Let summer begin!
