This Thursday at school the ILA children learned all about the importance of recycling.Susan Terry from the Clackamas County office of sustainability came to the school to talk about the how’s and why’s of recycling. The children had the opportunity to sort materials to be recycled (thanks to the items the parents brought in), and see the difference between the materials and what they are used for. This is a first step for the children to see the positive impact they can have on the earth through recycling and being conscious of what goes into landfills vs what is recycled and how this effects the health of our earth. What is so lovely about this, is that no matter what the age of the child they are able to actively participate in helping maintain a clean planet and can do it on a daily basis at home and at school through recycling.
Along with this, in the next few weeks, the children will be creating art projects using recycled materials, this is called upcycling. The children will go away with a new perspective as to what can be used to create art and other useful items using recycled materials.
