This spring will bring new activity outside as the children learn about planting seeds, nourishing the earth, and taking care of plants in all their stages of growth. Keep your eyes out for new garden beds being built at the school in the next few weeks. At the same time a composting project has been started in the lunchroom. All food scraps will be collected daily and a compost pile will be made outside. The children will learn about making good decisions like not wasting food at meals and scraps such as banana peels etc. that normally go in the garbage will be composted and transform into nutrient rich soil for the garden bed they will be planting. Without our healthy soil, plants won’t grow, this is the foundation of all gardens, flowers or vegetables, and the children will learn through hands on activities about the cycles of nature and our responsibility in taking care of mother earth.
